Creating a Nameserver For Yourself

Setting up your very own website is as easy as purchasing a shared website hosting plan and then prepare your web site design for upload. When websites are ready to go online all that needs to be done is have the entire web site design including all the pages uploaded to the website hosting company. Then the website hosting company should provide all the necessary instructions complete with nameserver information so you can let your new domain resolve to your website.
With this smooth setup, there shouldn't be anything to worry about unless you want to make your website as professional as possible. Even if your web site design looks really professionally made, some smart people may take a closer look at your site to see how professional it really is. With the aid of online network tools, people can check out what nameservers you are using along with the location your website is hosted at. If you don't like people seeing that, creating your own nameserver will save your image.
Surprisingly, you only need to fulfill a few requirements in order to create a nameserver for yourself. Achieving these isn't really hard and you just need a little bit of extra money to do so.
Install DNS Software on your Website Hosting Server
If you currently have a shared website hosting plan it may be the time to upgrade to a dedicated server unless you can somehow convince your hosting company to install the DNS software for you. A virtual private server or dedicated server should give you the best success in fulfilling this requirement.
Obtain Access to the Server's Root
Once again, you may not be so lucky if you are currently using a shared web hosting plan. You can always try asking your hosting company for assistance if you want to press your luck, but having a dedicated hosting plan fixes the problem. Before upgrading, try to see if you can telnet as that is one sign that you have access to the root.
Have at Least Two IP Addresses Available
Both of these IP addresses are required for your custom nameservers to function. This will not work if you have a shared IP address so you will be required to buy additional IP addresses exclusively for nameserver usage. If that is not available, try to see if there is a plan that lets you have your own IP address. Switch to that plan immediately if the service is offered. As long as you have two IP addresses, you should be fine.
Prepare a Domain Name that will Serve as your Custom Nameserver
There are two options that you can take in fulfilling this requirement. The most affordable way is to use the free domain that came with your web hosting package or the one that you bought separately. The other option is to simply purchase another domain name so that your nameserver and actual website address are different. It is entirely up to you in dealing with this as long as there is a domain name for the nameserver.
Set up your Custom Nameserver using the Domain Name that you Registered
Now that you have the domain registered, you can proceed in setting your custom nameserver up by creating special subdomains. You can freely use subdomains dns1 and dns2 or subdomains ns1 or ns2. The end result should look something like: dns1.sitename.com.
Add these New Nameservers to your Website Control Panel
If you made it this far, congratulations because this is the easiest step if you have a control panel that supports adding of nameservers. If you are having trouble with this step, you can still finalize the whole process with ease by simply contacting your hosting company to do the step for you. After that, changes should reflect afterwards and you can be proud of your very own nameserver that will protect your image.
